I left home at 0445 and picked up Mark and Bram on the way to meeting Jeff at Narellan. After refuelling at Lithgow we arrived at the camping ground in Sunny Corner State
Forest at 0830.
We began riding at 0900 and headed along forestry tracks, detouring along any single-line tracks we found from the GPS. We rode up to a hang glider takeoff area and had a glorious view of Bathurst and Mount Panorama. We rode a single-line track and return, and headed back towards the cars for lunch taking some detours along the way. We came to a fork at the top of a hill, and as I was hungry I said, "let's go right and take the easy way back". Yeah, Right - the track turned into a gnarly pile of rocks that just happened to be on the side of steep a hill ! Well, of course on the easy way back I came down onto rocks (as I tend to do at Sunny Corner). I picked myself up, without stalling the bike (numerous kicks avoided), and proceeded on. We waited at the bottom of the hill next to the creek for Jeff to walk his bike down.
We arrived back for lunch and refuelling 1300-1400.
Jeff left for home after lunch and the remaining boys headed to the eastern side
of the forest. We followed most of the tracks used in the 04 organised Sunny
Corner Ride, switching between the KTM and Yamaha loops, most of the time
against the arrows ! In the afternoon session I ran off a track when my front
brake lost line pressure, it had leaked oil from the master cylinder because of
my drop in the morning and the brake light switch was broken. Bram tightened the
fitting and I pumped the brake back to pressure. Not perfect, but sufficient to
allow the WR to perform !
Towards the end of the day's riding Mark let Bram lead, who decided to perform some tricks, like riding up a bank when falling off a bike, face planting into a bog hole and trying to jump a log (and forgetting to jump - I found Bram and his bike sprawled out in the grass !). Mark tried to tag a few wallabies, but he wasn't skilful enough to hit any !
We arrived back to the car at 1700 and left for home at 1800. The tracks were not very dusty, but some were rutted from the trail ride in September and subsequent snow melt. The temperature was a perfect 16oC max and the riding and company was excellent.
I arrived home at 2145. I wasn't as tired as usual because I had only kicked the bike a few times, not the usual 300 + effort !
